Our Mission

Travel information online is abundant and rarely useful at the moment of decision. Our mission is to publish guides that are specific enough to act on: real routes, realistic travel times, and costs stated plainly.

We aim to be useful to a first international trip and still useful to a twentieth. A first-time traveller needs to know which document to sort out first and how long a transfer really takes. Someone on their twentieth trip usually wants the opposite: the quieter island, the slower train, the reason a well-known city is worth a second week.

Both readers are served by the same discipline. Name the place. Say how you get there. Say what it costs, in what season, and what you give up by choosing it.

Most travel planning collapses at the same point. The inspiration is easy to find and the logistics are not. A reader knows they want to see the Dolomites, or Kyoto in autumn, or the coast south of Reykjavik, and then spends an evening reconciling flight times with bus timetables and opening seasons that nobody bothered to mention.

We write for that evening. That is why our guides sequence days rather than list attractions, and why transport is treated as part of the destination rather than an administrative footnote.

We are not a booking platform, a tour operator or a travel agency. We do not sell flights, rooms or tours, and we do not take a commission on a decision a reader makes after reading us. That is a deliberate limit: it means a guide can recommend staying two fewer nights, or skipping a paid attraction, without costing us anything.

We also do not attempt to cover everywhere. A thin page on a country nobody on the team has worked in is worse than no page at all.

The reader we picture has a finite budget, a fixed number of days off, and no appetite for reading twelve tabs to establish whether a train runs on Sundays. They may be travelling with children, on a tight connection, or on a first passport.

Accessibility of information matters as much as accessibility of places. Prices are given as ranges rather than exact figures that age within weeks, and requirements that vary by nationality are flagged as things to verify rather than answered falsely for everyone.

A guide succeeds if a reader can plan from it without opening ten other tabs. That means named places, sequenced days, transport options with their trade-offs, and an honest note when something is not worth the detour.

We treat reader corrections as the clearest signal we have. When several people write in about the same detail, the guide was not clear enough, and the fix belongs in the article rather than in a reply.

Over time we want the library to work as a whole: destination guides that connect to transport explainers, accommodation advice that connects to the neighbourhoods it describes, and preparation material that a reader can work through in the month before departure.

That is the ambition rather than a finished claim. The library grows slowly and on purpose, and every section is written to be revised as things on the ground change.
