A Global Guide To Places, Journeys And Experiences

About Us

Ploërmel is the name. The world is the destination.

An independent travel publication

Tourisme Ploërmel is a travel guide and editorial publication. We publish destination guides, transport explainers, accommodation advice, event coverage and practical preparation material for travellers planning international trips.

We are not a tour operator or a travel agency. We do not sell trips. Our work is to answer the questions that come before a booking: where to go, how to get there, what to see, where to stay, and what to know before leaving.

The company behind the publication is Tourisme Ploërmel LLC, registered in Charleston, South Carolina. The editorial team is small and distributed, supported by commissioned writers and photo editors in the regions we cover.

Why Ploërmel

Ploërmel is a small French place name we use as a symbol of a starting point. Every journey begins somewhere modest and local, and the distance from that point to anywhere else in the world is mostly a matter of planning.

From a small French place to every corner of the world: that idea shapes how we write. We assume the reader is starting from home, with a finite budget and a finite number of days.

We are not an official tourism body for the town of Ploërmel or for anywhere else. The name states a point of view rather than a jurisdiction.

What we publish

The library is organised the way a trip is actually planned: where to go, how to get there, what to see, where to stay, travel tips, events and experiences, what to do before you go, and travel arranged by interest.

Guides are long enough to plan from. That usually means sequenced days rather than lists of attractions, transport treated as part of the destination, and costs given as seasonal ranges instead of a precise figure that ages within weeks.

How we work

Research combines first-hand travel with operator timetables and official transport and tourism sources. Every guide is read by an editor before publication, and practical details are checked against a primary source at the time of writing.

All photography is real documentary imagery licensed from its rights holders, with descriptive alternative text written by a person. We do not publish artificially generated images.

Editorial recommendations are not for sale. Commercial work exists, it is labelled, and it never changes what a guide says.

What we ask of readers

Travel information ages faster than anything else we publish. Before you book, confirm the details that can spoil a trip if they have moved: documents and entry requirements, timetables, opening seasons and safety guidance.

If a guide is wrong, tell us. Reader corrections are the fastest messages we answer, and the ones that improve the library most.

Our approach

Four things we try to get right

We publish for the moment before a decision — when a traveller is still choosing between two countries, two routes or two neighbourhoods. These are the principles that shape every guide.

01

Useful Before Beautiful

Practical information should be as important as inspiration. A guide that looks good and tells you nothing about transfers, seasons or costs has not done its job.

02

Real Places

We focus on destinations that travellers can actually visit, with the flights, trains, permits and opening hours that make them reachable in a real number of days.

03

Independent Perspective

We avoid making every destination sound identical. Some places reward a week and some reward an afternoon, and a guide should say which is which.

04

Curiosity First

We encourage readers to look beyond predictable itineraries — to use the famous landmark as a starting point rather than the whole plan.

Where the name comes from

A Small Name With A Very Large Map

Ploërmel is a modest French place name, and we use it deliberately. It stands for the ordinary starting point that every journey has: a home town, a regional station, a small airport two hours from anywhere famous.

The distance between that starting point and the other side of the world is mostly a matter of planning — connections, seasons, documents and time. That is the distance this publication tries to cover.

So the name stays local while the map stays global. Ploërmel is the name. The world is the destination.

Ploërmel is the name. The world is the destination.
