Editorial Standards

Guides are built from a combination of first-hand travel, operator timetables, official tourism and transport sources, and documented public information. Where a writer has not visited recently, the guide says so.

Practical claims are traced to whoever actually controls them: the railway for a journey time, the park authority for a season, the government for an entry requirement. Aggregator sites are a starting point for finding a source, never the source itself.

Every article is read by an editor for accuracy, structure and tone before publication. Practical details such as journey times, seasons and requirements are checked against a primary source at the time of writing.

Editors also check the shape of a guide: whether it answers the question a reader actually arrived with, whether the sequence of days is possible, and whether anything has been recommended without a reason attached.

Prices are given as ranges and described by season rather than quoted exactly, because an exact figure is out of date within weeks and creates false confidence. Journey times are given as typical durations including the realistic connection, not as the best case.

Where a figure is volatile, we say what it depends on. That is more useful than a number that happens to be true on the day of publication.

All imagery is real documentary photography licensed from its rights holders. We do not publish artificially generated images, and we do not composite or retouch a scene into something a traveller would not find.

Alternative text is written by a photo editor to describe what the picture shows, both for readers using assistive technology and because it forces us to check that the image belongs on the page.

Editorial recommendations are not for sale. No operator, board or brand receives coverage, ranking or a change of tone in exchange for spend, and no partner has approval rights over editorial judgement.

Corrections that affect the substance of a guide are noted on the article. Minor fixes, such as a renamed station or a moved entrance, are made without a note.
